Advice required: Kitchen renovation

We are new to buying kitchens, some earlier threads recommended Fust, IKEA, Hornbach + the possibility of buying from Germany. I would like an update on this please. Who has had a recent experience, good or bad? Thanks in advance.

We had Fust give us a quote in the early stages of our renos and it was a disaster. They had the style of the cupboards wrong, missed 2 wall units, filled in a doorway and put the wrong pieces on that wall, put an island hob and fan when we didn't want one (or even have the ventilation to accommodate) and charges us insane prices for cheap appliances. We didn't even know where to start with regards to having them fix it so we nixed it altogether.

We ended up using someone outside of Basel but he specializes in British country kitchens. If this is the style you're going for I can PM you his details.

Re: Advice required: Kitchen renovation

Hello, we are replacing our kitchen right now. It is basically new (we bought an apartment from someone who bought it off plan as an investment and never lived there) so our kitchen has been used only by us and for the last two months only. We decided to replace it because we are redecorating the whole apartment in a different style. It comes with cabinets, an island, microwave, oven, electric stove and hood. We are happy to sell the whole thing very inexpensively if you can come and pick it up. Pictures are available if anyone is interested. Good opportunity to save thousands.

I haven't heard a good word about Fust kitchens and the fitting of them.

Re: Advice required: Kitchen renovation

Have an Ikea kitchen that we DIY, very happy with it. See more details on the Ikea kitchen thread. There is the possiblity for them to install or for you DIY. If choosing the latter, be sure you are aware for what you are up to. If it requires new/re-positioning the plumbing and electric, it gets challenging fast. Having Ikea do it, is quite expensive in my opinion and you still have to do the infrastructure work yourself or hire that out separately.

We bought in Germany and saved a fortune. However, you may well need a Swiss plumber and electrician.

You can also be lucky to find a "Ausstellungsküche" i.e. a kitchen which has been display and now are being sold with everything from moderate to huge saving. We just bought a Bulthaup kitchen which was on display at a German dealer. However, it was not without problems and if I ever should do that again I certainly know now what I have to pay attention to in order to ensure a smooth kitchen experience.

We picked it up and installed everything ourselves.

Re: Advice required: Kitchen renovation

Still happy with our Ikea kitchen 12 months on.

Really not a bad word to say and still another 24 years' guarantee on the materials and 4 on the electrics.

I've had friends use the German folks at Bauhaus for a bathroom and they didn't have a problem - Bauhaus organised everything including the plumbing. Just goes to show what a rip off it really is in CH.
