Any suggestions on the best way to find a roommate in Switzerland? Any suggestions about what to look out for? I will plan to have the roommate sign a sublease contract with me and then submit it to the landlord. Is there any other information I should know? Website suggestions where I could place an ad? THANKS!!

I wanted to clarify, I will be moving into the apartment, so the lease is in my name.

Re: Find a roommate

Hello there,

I have been looking for a roommate to share my current (very luxurious) apartment in Basel but I have to tell you the truth that it is a difficult process.

Its making me wonder if sharing flats, for the sake of having roommates is not commonly done here in Basel. Given that I work in pharma, my ad is in the e-classified sites of both Roche and Novartis along with smallworld and wgzimmer of course. Over the last two months, I ve received only 3-4 requests. Granted the rent I am asking is on the higher side (1,300 CHF for the renters share), the apartment is HUGE (132 sq m) and built just a couple years ago. I guess at that price point people would rather get a single on their own.

Unfortunately, if i don't find anyone in the next 30 days, I am going to have to move out of this great place. I wish you good luck in your search and I hope you have better luck that I have had...

Re: Find a roommate

Thanks for your advice, the wgzimmer website is great! What is the "smallworld" website address? I would like to post my ad there as well.

In Basel, I would try https://markt.unibas.ch
Although it's from the University, it is quite popular with non-students!
Good luck with your search!
