Landlord reference

Hi all,
Before i even move out and do my final clean i need to go back to the UK and find a place; in the UK most lettings agents require a reference from a previous housing management group – basically saying you always paid your rent and did not burn the place down.

However when i have asked work colleagues etc about this they look at me blankly and say there is no such thing.

But i need to get one from my housing management group of 3.5 years but do not know what to ask them for? One complication is i now have a new housing management group who took over at the beginning of 2012. Do you know if i can still ask the old housing management group for such a reference and what it might be called in German?

Thanks

Re: Landlord reference

I got it from my landlord! And it's very common among some of my swiss friends...

Just ask your landlord, stating the purpose and what you want. You can even propose to draft for them.
Hope it helps.

Re: Landlord reference

Write the reference yourself, in easy English, and ask him to sign it. Visibly carry two bottles of red wine...

Re: Landlord reference

I was told you could ask for an "attestation" in the french speaking part of Switzerland. You could also ask ASLOCA if you are a member.

Yes that sounds about right to me.

A good letting agent will ask you for that, as well as maybe a letter from your employer & possible bank details. If you dont yet have a UK account, perhaps some copies of your statements from Switzerland.

The better the place you are renting the more likely they are to do thorough checks.

If an Owner has something called Rental Insurance, then the insurance company require lots of stuff.

They worry you move in and dont pay the rent etc, then have to go through process of taking you to court

Good luck with your move
