I have just recently moved here from the US (working at the EPFL).

Right now I am staying at my friends house in Bussigny, I would like to try and eventually move either closer towards EPFL, or where there is more to do on the weekends. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice on this. I understand housing is quite difficult around here. Is there an equivalent of craigslist or something along those lines I could check? What are good routes to go about finding housing?

I lived in Lausanne 2 years ago for nearly one year.

The housing market is tough. Basically by the time its advertised its gone.
The best thing is to ask around at work. Some friend of a friend of a friend will move soon. If you move at any day other than the set dates on your contract then you are required to write a letter to the rental agency and suggest someone else to take over the rent. The agency doesn't have to accept the suggested person, but they might...
(our flat was rented after us by someone at the agency!!!!)
