Re: Where to buy a bed

We got our bed from Migros. It's a Hasena bed and very happy with it.
Check out migros -> www.micasa.ch

This is our actual bed by the way, but there are ones cheaper than this! http://www.micasa.ch/de/moebel/schla...p.403103400000

Re: Where to buy a bed

Be careful with Ikea; their bed sizes differ from those of other countries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mattres...ess_dimensions You may have to rely on Ikea for linen thereafter.

You might want to compare eBay sellers. Over the years we have bought sofas and chairs from Kasper Wohndesign, a German firm that sells also on ebay.ch; they deliver to Switzerland and even with the freight charge their prices seem reasonable.

Re: Where to buy a bed

I have always had great beds/mattresses from Ikea...and the delivery cost isn't too horrendous if you can't get to an Ikea yourself.

Re: Where to buy a bed

Somewhere that makes proper mattresses (like say the UK Hypnose brand - lovely). We bought ours in London along with a proper Hypnose mattress and had it shipped here for a bargain total of about 250 sterling for shipping. Worth it considering how well we can sleep

I am shipping a whole [rental] flat's worth of new furniture, including 2 beds, from the UK next week. Via franceremovals.com which collected the lot in their warehouse. We've used them before.

The downside of using UK beds is that their king size is only approximately a US queen, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_size

You may have to buy your linen in the UK as well.

Yeup, fair. I do buy linen in London and ship it here (and even after monogramming and shipping and paying import duties it somehow ends up cheaper . I am sure you will enjoy your bed!

Re: Where to buy a bed

I would say Ikea or Conforama. Or you buy second hand on Ricardo or Interio Möbelbörse.

Re: Where to buy a bed

Unfortunately the only affordable place to buy a 'decent' bed is at IKEA. We bought ours 2years ago and it is still comfortable.

Hi

I need to buy a new bed but they all seem so expensive here in Zurich. Can anyone recommend a place to buy a good quality bed at a reasonable price? We are prepared to buy from Germany.

Thanks

Laura
Breaking this up into 2 parts, what do people think is expensive for:
1 A bed?
2 A Matress?

I make bed frames and furniture so I am curious what people think but the prices here for the matress' and frames underneath does seem expensive to me.

Re: Where to buy a bed

I love our Ikea bed! 5 years on and it's still going strong. Most of our sheets and things come from John Lewis in the uk - ok, so the fitted sheets aren't as tight as they would be on a uk sized mattress, but they work fine

Hi, Did u try Conforama. They have good nonexpensive beds and mattresses. I don't know check their websites to see their locations in Zurich. I know there is one in Lausannes and Villeneuve in the Vaud canton.
Here is the link: http://www.conforama.ch/choix-magasin_10051_10601_-16

Re: Where to buy a bed

This place seems ok. www.superiorbeds.ch
Looks like they do beds from UK.. expensive stuff, but look reasonable value.

If that is not your price range then i guess the best bed you can possibly buy in Ikea .. but dont buy their foam ones or you will be replacing them in a few years!

Re: Where to buy a bed

I’ve spent days checking all the bed threads here and in different English-speaking forums in German-speaking countries. We’ve always had a box spring and this whole lattenrost/bedrahmen and whether two buy two mattresses and two ‘lattenrost’ for a double bed seems to be an undecipherable enigma for us. So here comes my question: to whose who changed from the ‘Anglosaxon/international’ type of bed to the ‘German’ was it worth? It your life –or at least your nights- better after it?

If answers about German beds are not so enthusiastic, I’ll go for the The Sleep Room ones (now called Loaf.com). And here some info to update the thread: the cost of delivery to Switzerland was estimated on 525 pounds if we’d use their moving company. I also asked for quotes at France Removals –somewhere int the EF suggested, thanks!- and with them it gets to 400 pounds. The beds they have there look nicer than any other I’ve seen so far in Switzerland and Germany and they seem to have quite a reputation for them, which I hope was not only gained by their aesthetic value, but for how comfortable and resistant they are. If anyone has something good or bad to say about these beds, I’ll really appreciate it, as it does feel weird to spend this amount of money on a bed I won’t have the opportunity to try.

That’s it. (and thanks EF for your existence, I wouldn’t have been able to get a new bed without you…
