Ok maybe we shouldnt have installed this. Anw whats done is done. The 130francs a month is for 24hour surveillance and intervention in case something happens. Hopefully it will be a waste of money.

what that means is if the alarm is triggered they will call you and / or the alarm, if its a break in or fire they will call the police etc
so no more then buying your own alarm system that will text you etc will do
seriously, cancel this contract now!! its a total con

| | | Re: What do you think about alarm systems? | Quote: | | | | | Ok so at the end we went for it. It will cost us 130 francs per month. We did check everything as Mathnut said. The guy was very professional and answered all my questions.
To be honest im still not convinced we need one but id rather pay and not need it than need it and not have it. Call me easily fooled if you want... | | | | | a shotgun would have been cheaper. but well, you got an alarm system now.

I admit it was a bit of a rush. If something bad happens then OH will get the blame. If no then good. It may have helped it may not.
Anw your comments made me feel like s*** to be honest. But i hope they were well intended at the least...

Gata, I think you've done the right thing; if only for your OH's peace of mind. Certainly in Geneva these days an alarm isn't such a daft idea.
Son has gone for one that just screams the place down and texts him, no centre contract; I just hope for his neighbours sake he doesn't forget the code!!!

I don't think anyone has said an alarm is a bad idea, what is a bad idea is giving a company 130chf per month to do something most off the shelf alarm system nowadays do automatically for free

check out this company http://www.global-gadgets.com/
we have the defender alarm, but the gamma alarm looks pretty interesting. and they will do everything the alarm this company is trying to sell you will do, maybe more, should the alarm get triggered it will phone upto 5 numbers and also text your mobile, telling you what sensor triggered, so you know if your house is burning down, or a window has been smashed. If your brave enough you can get it to call the local police station with a pre-recorded message etc
you can also call it up and hear whats happening in your house and talk to the burgler if you really want.
All for the price of 6 weeks of your alarm companies fee's
and yes they post to switzerland

I've hidden lots of money under the bed. Yes, bend down and have a look. Oh yes. Ohhhhh. No, not there, further underneath. Get on your hands and knees. Ohhhhhhhh. Wait. Don't go. There's a silver bar hidden in that drum of oil. Climb in there and rummage around. Both of you.

So last night we had the "alarm salesman" pitch his product to us. Trust me I would have said no to the appointment but Mrs. Magic said okay after he assured her there would be no pressure and at any point we could say "No" he would leave.
We listened to all the information and being honest it was a good system, I liked the monitoring centre etc, however it was massively overpriced. His sales technique was pretty good, liked the way Zero cost was written with huge size!
At the end I had listened then he went through the check list which is a series of 3 questions at which at the end you are supposed to say "Yes" and sign at the bottom.
Deal was free equipment & instillation valued at somewhere between 3900 & 6900 then 129 CHF a month + VAT.
So I said "No" and asked him to leave
He looked at me as if I had just stolen his wallet
Now wait for it, he then said "are you mad or stupid" and asked me to explain why "No"
Simple I have two of the best weapons in my possession (a) "englishforum" (b) Google
Told him that this company securitaz-direct to which he said you had to pay for the equipment. Told him this suited me better as I prefer to pay some up front money and have a lower monthly subscription. Also Zurich connect supports this company, link here:
Finished off with the link from this thread about buying equipment direct from the UK.
He wants to come back on Thursday night just after I arrive back from abroad to see what the competition final prices are Well I am game for a challenge to p!ss him off more, someone needs to explain this is way overpriced.
So much for we will leave if you say "No" and also so much for this deal is only for today, do not tell anyone else as we cannot offer it to everyone. Loved the one of if I leave now it will be more expensive, okay please leave then
We are on the 3rd storey of 4 so cannot see someone coming through the balcony unless they are going to use a grappling hook, fair deal to them if they do.
I am going to buy a complete system from the UK and install it myself.
Expect an update on Friday.

Hello to you all. We have been confirmed as tenants in a medium sized house in the Bellevue, Geneva area, the landlord threw a late bombshell at us regarding the alarm system.
He is to cancel the contract unless we maintain the system by choosing one of two options 1) Alarm system maintenance 306.70 per annum (Transalarme). 2) Security monitoring services 1’355.75 per annum (Protectas), including 5 interventions to the house by a two men security team in case of alarm; 150 CHF per intervention above the 5 interventions included in the contract The previous postings in this thread have been helpful but given the options that we have, I would be interested to get any views, especially on the perceived need and costs involved. Thanks in advance |
