| | | Moving notice sent to landlord, but now I changed my mind about moving..
So I sent a moving notice by registered mail to my landlord before end of June to satisfy the 3 months noticing period requirement. They've replied to acknowledge it.
But now I am considering staying where I am for maybe one more year, due to some changes to my circumstances. If I want to cancel the moving notice, I'm not sure if there any formal procedure to follow, or it's just a matter of sending another registered mail to the landlord, saying I've changed my mind and apologize for the inconvenience?
Thanks in advance if you know something about this and can share it with me.

Yes it's just a matter of sending another registered mail to the landlord, saying I've changed my mind and apologize for the inconvenience, and ask to pay for his expenses.

I hope the expenses are just advertising fees etc and won't mount into 4 digits |

After several attempts via phone and email, I finally got in touch with the regie and she verbally agreed to extend our lease. There was no mention of any fees or expenses to be reimbursed. I am still waiting for a written confirmation from the regie.
Good luck with your situation.

@bulaohu: I'd give them a call first thing tomorrow morning to advise them and see what they say in terms of the next steps assuming they are okay with it.
Last year a friend of mine who'd given notice to quit and then had a change of mind, was told by the management company to send them an email rescinding it. They confirmed their acceptance of it by return email.
There were no administrative charges to be paid for advertising the apartment as they had not yet started that process.

Why wait ?
Write to them recommended letter confirming their agreement to cancellation of your previous letter and continuationb of the lease. Make sure lette ris recommended that way there is no ambiguity.

I would advise you to call as soon as possible (and send the letter) to alert them to this. It would be a real pain if they sign up somebody new early in the week while your letter is on its way...

Just curious though, can the landlord sign up someone else without letting them to see the apartment first?

It is usually the tennants who ask to see the property, rather than the landloard showing it to them...

Some regies have waiting lists for particular appartment blocks or areas. So it is quite possible that someone will sign for a place without viewing it first. Especially now that it's so difficult to find somewhere in certain towns!
Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks! Yes I did get it sorted, the landlord has replied saying it's OK, we just pretend nothing happened
One thing a bit weird though, they asked me to re-confirm the amount of rent by listing it out and ask me to sign it & return to them. I don't know what this means. I'm a tiny bit suspicious that they are actually raising the rent a bit - because as I heard, due to the index number change, we should all get a bit of rent cut in the last 1/2 year or so. I never asked and of course didn't get a rent cut, so this re-confirmation of rent might mean that I've lost the chance to do so. But well, I'm off to a 2 week holiday tomorrow and can't care less.

As long as the amounts listed are the same as you're paying now I wouldn't worry, they're probably just asking you to confirm your commitment to the previous rental agreement.
NB; You don't automatically get a reduction in rent because of a change in index rates, you have to apply for it! Your next task, perhaps?
Enjoy your holiday!

You may wish to check what rate of interest has been used with the same amount of rent (also noted on the contract). If it is today's rate, you cannot ask for a decrease afterwards and once it goes up, they would be allowed to increase your rent.
E.g. if you are paying a CHF 3000.- a month today with an interest (Hypozins) rate of say 3.5 % on your old contract and with the resignature, the amount still says CHF 3000.- but with the lower interest rate of today, it means that for all intents and purposes you have had a rent "increase" since the decrease you could have applied for/should have been given, can no longer be requested.
