Hi everyone:

I need to move out of my Zurich apartment (1 bedroom + kitchen) into a storage facility. I would need the storage facility for three days only... I just have to get my stuff out of my apartment while the inspection is done.

I just received a quote of 1000 - 1100 CHF from Student Move. This seems insanely high, even by Swiss standards. It is as much as I'm paying to move overseas!

1. Does anyone know of a moving company that offers short-term storage at a lower cost?

2. Is there short-term storage (without movers) available? I have done a lot of googling, and all of the area storage facilities seem to require long, expensive contracts.

You could always book a grotty hotel for a few days!

That's tempting, but I probably wouldn't be allowed to move my furniture in!

You dont need to ask, just do it, alternatevly just rent a Van & leave it in the Van, it's only a few days!

It's not the storage they are charging you for it's the actual moving that's expensive.

I guess also there is a minimum period they charge fore storage, irrespective if you stay for the full period or just a few days.

Find a lock up garage and rent it for 1 month, look in Migros/Coop at the small ads board, usualy near the newspaper & cigarette counter.

Well, I solved it. My apartment company--which I've always complained about in the past--is doing a pre-inspection! So they will come over in advance and check that everything in the apartment looks OK. Then on moving-to-Belgium day, I will simply move out of the apartment into the moving truck and hand over the apartment keys!

When I moved into the apartment, the poor girl who was moving out was grilled for about four hours. So that's why I originally thought I should do the inspection in advance, so the moving-to-Belgium guys wouldn't have to wait.
