Quick question – is it common to bring a hostess gift? I have recently moved into a small apartment building (eight units) and one neighbor is hosting a cocktail hour. I have expressed I want to host an aperol, however, because of work events I need to wait a month. I would like to bring a hostess gift but don’t want to mistakenly offend.

I would. It depends on who the neighbour is but I usually see people offering flowers, wine..

I would take a small plant that is already gift-wrapped.

Yes, I do usually bring small gift, for example wine, flowers or chocolate...
and people also bring something when I host an aperol.
When you are not sure how big the aperol is you should not cake or foods stuff.
the best gift is small bunch of flower. it looks nice and no one won't be sad when people are given flowers!
