You can get a sticker from the post office I think that basically says no unsolicited mail or something similar. Stick it to your post box and you will only get mail addressed to you.

I don't know if it's the right thing to do but I was so miffed at getting so much junk mail I started putting a strikethrough on my address and writing "Refusé" on the envelope and dropping it back into the post box. Most junk mail has an originating address on it and they would (probably) have to pay for the return postage.

My addressed junk mail dropped by two thirds in about 6 months.

Simple, sign up with a fake address. That's what I did but my IKEA card and Migros card still both work (and this is several years later).

Easy to stop junkmail by putting a sticker on letterbox- but if you sign up for a Migros, Coop or Ikea (etc) membership card, then the post they send is addressed to you, and then the post HAS TO deliver it. Unless you use Amogles strategy- but I am not clever enough to have thought of that! Mind you the Migros magazine is quite interesting and has lots of vouchers.

But if you sign up with a fake address, you wont get the free coupons they sent every 3 months or so

How about if you use the address of Ikea's headquarters office, or at least on of their stores?... I'm definitely doing that next time!

Or the Billag address.

That's called revenge.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

It is important to distinguish between addressed mail, which is NOT junk mail, and flyers etc, which are not addressed.

Putting a sticker on your letterbox will only stop the unaddressed mail.

If you signed up for cards such as Ikea, Migros, Coop, there was an option to unsubscribe to mail when you first applied. To exercise this option now you will have to write or call referencing your membership number.

As others have pointed out, these membership cards include mailings with special offers and discount coupons.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

We get tons of junk mail even after putting a sticker "Keine verbung".

At point my wife was calling Basler Zeitung's office to tell them not to send us these newspapers as we don't read German and it's an inconvenience to recycle them, but we still get these as we live in a house and our mailbox is outside for everyone to post their junk mails.

As the junk mail is unaddressed I can't even return them in the post. is there anything we can do to stop receiving such mails i.e electrifying our mail boxes.....

I actually like junk mail. Because:

1. It shows you the heartbeat of the current marketing culture.

2. It's useful to improve your language skills.

3. Some of the smaller pamphlets make great beer mats.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

If your address is on the magazine, they have to deliver it.
But you can call them or wright an email saying you don't want the magazines anymore, should work.

However it didn't work with the bloody "Kirchenbote", years ago. I don't belong to a church, never did. so called them up, said they could stop sending me their newsletter and they hung up on me! twice!
Third time they got the drift, never heard or seen anything of them again.
