House Painter

Hi all,

Does anyone know a house painter here in Zurich or has an idea how much is to paint a ceiling?
I'm leaving my flat and I think I must paint the ceiling or know how much my landlork can ask me for it.....I am really in a hurry.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

P.

Re: House Painter

I'm not sure but you might be better buying the materials and having a go at it yourself. I think you might get surprised by the labour costs.

Re: House Painter

Thanks a million, but I afraid I can make a shoddy piece of work....I don't know. I tried to buy some paint and stuff in Migros, Coop.. and make a test, but the supermarket staff said to me I must go to special shops to get this products...I don't know, everything seems to be so complicated here in Switzerland..

Anyway, many thanks for the tip.

P.

A member called SwissMs2000 replied to my thread about coloured paint and said her husband is a painter. Maybe contact her?

Re: House Painter

Hi,

Unless you actually damaged the ceiling yourself, eg: smoke damage from a chip-pan or your kids squirted slime all over it, you shouldn’t be responsible for painting the ceiling. It depends how long you have been living there and how long ago the flat was painted, there are percentage calculations based on the above. You are not responsible for usual wear and tear.
You might be able to get some information here: http://www.mieterverband.ch/.

I hope this helps.

Re: House Painter

Shoot! Did I just report my own post? If I did, I’m sorry, it was an accident. I should really heed my own advice (to my kids) and stop pressing buttons!

Re: House Painter

You're going to be looking at around 1000chf+ depending on how big your ceiling is. Head down to Jumbo or Obi and buy the paint and DIY.

Thanks a lot....
The point is I rented the flat 6 months ago and I put some stickers on the ceiling that are stars you can see in the darkness.
I have these stars in my previous flat and I removed them without any problems.
The thing is the landlord saw them the other day and said to me that I must remove them. I tried to do it this weekend and suddely I checked a shadow remained under every star....I go into terror.
I have to give the studio back this Friday!!!!
Well, I think it's my fault and I must pay but I wanted to check more or less the money he is going to ask for but....1000 CHF for 15 m2!!!!, it's too much!!!!
I have to think quick, quick...very quick....perhaps I am going to make a shoddy piece of work and the best is to phone a painter, but perhaps there is no time for a painter....

thanks again.

Pilar.

Is it the sticky residue left behind which is marking the ceiling? If so, you can get some methylated spirits from the pharmacy - that will probably bring it off. Will save you a shedload of hassle painting the ceiling.

Yes, that is, but the ceiling has a very thin layer of paint so, it could be worse to try this....

I have to decide something just know.

Thanks again for your support.

Re: House Painter

I just paid a guy 1350 to paint two complete rooms plus one large ceiling. I was shocked at the price, particularly as he came up with an hourly rate of chf40 and was quite evidently time wasting by the end. I did the rest myself - and I made a better job of it, even though I'm a novice painter!! The worst thing was, we share a garage with the neighbours and the guy went ahead and helped himself to the neighbour's ladder - I didn't even realise til after he'd gone. Way to integrate yourself into the area - get branded as a crook before you've even moved in!

Good luck with the whole thing!

Re: House Painter

It's wise to always ask for a written estimate before having any work carried out (provided in duplicate, each copy being signed by both parties). This way you know in advance how much the work will cost (and if it is too expensive you can always ask somebody else), and the individual providing the service cannot charge you any more than he originally asked.

Re: House Painter

It would be a lot cheaper if you bought the paint yourself and paid a non-professional to do it for you, someone like the concierge of your building or a cleaning lady’s husband, everyone could use extra cash at Christmas.

Having said that though, I had those little stars in my children’s room and the marks came off with just soap and water, might be worth a try if you haven't already done so.

Good luck!
