| | | Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD
Are you aware that since 01.01.2013 you are required to use the newly introduced waste/garbage sacks if you live in Vaud?
Here is some more information LINK
Happy Holidays!

Um. Been doing that in our commune here in Fribourg canton for several years now. It wasn't done that way when we first moved here so I would have said it was a communal decision not a cantonal one as Fribourg city had been using special bags for some time before our commune decided on the switch. Guess Vaud is different.

thanks for the heads up | | | | | Why an extra cost? Most places either use the bags or stickers for generic bags. My experience is that costs for either are similar. Indeed special bags usually cheaper, but that might city vs. countryside issue.

You need to ask the cashiers for the specifically.

When we moved to Zurich from Vaud earlier this year the whole "20 CHF for a pack of binbags" thing came as a bit of a shock. However, I've found it makes you think twice about what you throw away. As a result we've started recycling much more than we used to (previously it was just bottles and paper for us, now it is cans and plastic bottles as well as cartons).
Just as an add-on, I was back in Lausanne last weekend seeing my parents and you do indeed ask for them when you reach the checkout of any Migros, Coop etc.

Some notes: in other Cantons the shop keepers would rather you buy their products, so although they all sell the Canton bags, they are not usually on display, you need to ask " Avez-vous les sacs poubelles s'il vous plaît? " or " Où puis-je acheter des sacs à ordures s'il vous plaît? "
The larger shops, with fresh flowers or a customer service counter, will sell them there. Other shops have them at the checkout, you need to specify the size: 17 liter, 35 liter, 60 liter, 110 liter
If you wait until the standard 35 liter bag is full, it will probably be very smelly, and everytime you throw something away, a nasty odour will enter your kitchen. If you produce a little trash I can give you a useful tip. Buy the 35 liter Canton white/green sacks, and buy the smallest standard Coop/Migros black bags you can find. As you fill up the black bags, squeeze the air out of them and store them in the bigger white/green sack which you can keep on your balcony. You will probably get three 17 liter bags into one 35 liter sack, and so save some money too.
Note: most Cantons also charge a standard annual fee per head of population, about CHF 100 per year, on top of the bag charges. You will probably see that on your annual invoice for extra charges from your landlord.

But as I understand it is being done commune by commune, some have got their act together to do it on 1 January 2013, while others have not. So before you go running, check your village rules, most who are implementing should have notified you by now.

The Post Office seems to be selling the bags as well (or at least in smaller locals where I am).
As mentioned by others, you have to ask for the bags (normally at the check out) as they are afraid the bags might "walk away".

It looks like VEVEY is not part of it yet, no communication about it anywhere.
It's an extra cost because at the moment we don't use stickers or anything for our rubbish, I know this is fortunate for us so far.
I did see posters for this in Lausanne today, will ask in our migros and coop to be extra sure

I live in Lutry and they won't start it until 2014 at the earliest, yeah!!!!
With a bit of luck my daughter will be out of nappies by then, so it won't cost so much.
BTW: I saw that a few Migros put a stock of those new bags close to the cash desks. But because of the high risk of theft, they keep them in sight.

Rrrrrrrr. This makes me so mad. Expensive!
Do you know where to get these 80 free bags? Someone told me, the law does not apply at all if you have a newborn. Can anyone please look at the French version of the law to see what it says about newborns?

Ok. It is a 100 bags of 35 ltr or 200x17. I was going to start throwing out our baby with the bathwater. He can stay if the bags are free.

I had a quick look on the official website and there is no information about the nappies/bags question.
You need to contact the local government office depending where you live. Take the baby along as proof |

I read in the local newspaper that there was an uproar in Prilly, as the commune decided to give a few rolls of free bags only to parents whose baby is born from the 1st January 2013 onward. This is very unfair, as kids generally use nappy until 2-3 years old.

I should add that the law applies to ALL types of garbage you want to put out. This means nappies as well.
In Lausanne, you get a total of 8 rolls of 35L bags (80 bags) if you have a baby. And that is it.
Some communues give you a certain number of bags per year. So, you need to ask your specific commune.
