As of January 1, 2013, Zurich is starting a separate waste concept for organic waste. Finally!

Currently, you can get rid of garden waste in separate containers, which you have to sign up for. As of 1/1/2013, the containers can also be used for organic kitchen waste. If you already have a "Gartenabfall" container, you do not have to do anything. Otherwise, you have to sign up.

Thanks to the "not in my trash can" lobby, we all have to pay for trash and rubbish sacks, and trash tourists are eager to find a way to save CHF 1,40 on a bag of trash. These tourists are very likely to use the organic green bins for their free trash deposits.

Result: you pay someone to remove the illegal trash deposited.

We should all complain, and remove these stupid trash bag charges, everyone should pay a fixed sum and all the trash would be collected without all these inspections, creating special bags and printing the trash bag labels.

Back home they like to test out new system in my home town. First they got rid replaced Garbage and Recycling with Wet and Dry, and then they changed to blue, green and white bags for separations. Each having different pickup periods. Drove me insane!!
