Visit IKEA or Conforama once- Also all the items that you had mentioned can be bought from other EF members - watch out "for sale/wanted" under market place - sometimes you will find good items at "Free Stuff" as well Good luck - Happy New year

Question, when you say a house do you mean an actual house or an apartment?

Which ever I find during my search when I am there in Baden. I prefer appartment.
But I am thinking, house or appartment both are same......are they different?

Bharadhvaj, good luck with the search. Any type of accomodation is in short supply in the Baden area (at the best of times) and you will be moving here outside the regular notice periods (April, July, October) which means there will be even less on the market.
Do you have some temporary accomodation sorted out for when you arrive?
Is someone helping you with your search? I just think you need to plan this methodically...first things first. Find a place and then furnish it...at the moment I think you are putting the cart before the horses.

I had asked this, because one, rent is a far bigger difference between the two of those, in contrast with say somewhere like the US or France to here. Also you might find a place that comes pre furnished as well.

Thanks all for the suggestions.....!
Yeah..I agree methodical planning is required. But to be frank I am doing a lot of advanced planning. I am yet to receive my permit, which I am hoping soon after these christmas & new year holidays. I would first settle down in a serviced apartment for a month, during which I will search for aparment where I will stay for long. I am constantly looking for serviced apartments but could not fix anything because my dates are not known yet.
Yeah I too heard that getting an accommodation in Baden area is difficult.
I am not looking for furnished apartment, I would like to buy stuff and furnish.
The outlet in Dietikon is not far from Baden, and you should be able to negotiate a delivery price with them as well as a discount for making a 'bulk' order. Their website says they charge 60chf per man, per hour for deliveries... google says 15 minutes each way for the travel time...

Bear in mind that in an apartment block you will share the clothes washing facilities with other tenants unless it's a very newly built block which has individual units in each apartment, so there will be no need to buy one. You will be allocated one day a week, and possible time slot as well, when you are allowed to do all your clothes washing.
Also if going for an apartment check the lift facilities out as you don't want to be lugging furniture up several flights of stairs to your new apartment.
You could also try www.hiob.ch for good secondhand items from furniture to cutlery. They will also deliver if you get big items or several items from them. Check the site for the one nearest you.

.
And what is the alternative if they don't? Have no furniture, or pass on an apartment that is affordable and available because they would have the burden of moving in?

Hire a special outside lift device that allows you to move items in through a French window or similar. Or just buy/move a couple of pieces in at a time. Then you might not do your back in.

Wait till you have confirmed the rental of your abode. It will probably come with laundry washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, oven, stove, refrigerator, and perhaps built-in closets. Then you can begin buying your basics such as mattresses, beds, dining set, desks, shelves, and lounge set. Good luck.

There are a few ads on the Expats Baden forum (yahoo group) for unfurnished flats. But of course until you have a permit you cannot apply.
Your employer might be in a position to arrange temporary housing for you. Even if you have to pay personally, your employer should try and get you their corporate rate. This is what I do for my clients.
