| | | Do you prioritize apartment or location?
I've never had a more difficult time deciding between two places to live (only a sublet, 6-12 months during the summer, so nothing long-term). My girlfriend and I always have opposing priorities regarding apartment or location - could use some extra opinions to convince one of us one way or the other.
These are the main factors in our decision-making: 1. The apartment 3 balconies on 6th floor with amazing mountain views (rest of apartment also very nice, but this is the biggest perk) guest bedroom located in Moillesulaz which is quite dull and an effort to get to the lake (which would be crowded Geneva spots) 2. The location Nyon old town (very close to nicer, cleaner public swimming areas on the lake as well as cafes, restaurants, etc) Apartment has almost no natural light and is generally not very cozy
Both are equidistant from work and equal in price.

1) Walking distance to work.
2) Parking spaces / private garages available.

Pick up the first one. I agree Moillesulaz is a dump but is also 20 minutes from the center via tram. And next door to France for cheap shopping

Even if the place is quite dull, don't forget you're in Geneva, small town, where you can go almost everywhere with a bus, a tram, by bicycle or by feet.

The second has 1 smiley and one frown.
11th floor, amazing views, balconies, lots of rooms, and light.
2nd choice is nearer good outdoor places.
Summer time ..... will you be more indoors? ... or outdoors?
1st one sounds okay for long term (maybe nicer for winter?)
2nd one seems a better choice for enjoying the summer here, as who cares about natural light indoors, when there`s lots of sunshine outside?

In the summer, we would be outdoors more, hence the attention to the lake. But it would also be nice to have meals on the balcony.
I should add another to option 2, as Nyon is the starting point for the mountain train into the Jura which we frequent.

The first one. Easy. Wel, you should spend sometime trying to find a better apartment in Nyon first.

I would always pick a better location and worse apartment.
If anyone described a place as "a dump", I'd run the other way.

The problem is that both of these will go to other suitors if we don't take them in the next few days.
Another advantage to both is that they are very flexible (which we need as we are subject to the risks of short-term contracts)

If anyone described a place as "a dump", I'd run the other way. | | | | | Both places are decent enough. As we'll be living there for the whole summer, this is what makes it difficult.
The first provides a great setting for home life (e.g. meals, working, reading on the balcony) but is a bit far away from the places where we like to be outside; the second is a gateway to outdoor activities (lake and culture), but we would always try to be outside of the house at cafes or parks.

For the summer you'll be on the door step of the lake so you won't need the balcony anyway. Plus for the summer you may want it a bit dark so it doesn't over heat.
Then if you really hate it, you have 6 months to look for something else.
Of course, we are ignoring Tom's important issues: Which is closer to work? Do you have/need parking? Parking in Nyon is alway more of a hassle than out in the country.

I realized midway that I need more insight into my predicament and less general tendencies. But both are welcome!!
