I moved out of Zurich city in October. I received a bill from the EWZ (Zurich Electricity) for the year 2006.12 - 2007.12.

I called them up and told them that I had moved in October and they told me that I did not cancel my service contract. I assumed that everything would be automated, it being such an organised system.

Well, you know what they say about assumption.

I am going to pay it and have now asked them to cancel the contract.

So, for those who are moving, be sure to cancel your electricity contract with your supplier.

I moved house in the summer to a all inclusive in rent flat. I had to go on to the webb site and filled out a form, until then they kept billing me.

I also did not cancel I thought it would all be handled by the old landlord.

I was told that we would not be responsible for canceling the electric & cable contracts and that the agency would have them transfered to the new tenant....
I guess I'm going to have to make sure of this!

you can cancel EWZ electronically; I did IIRC. Also the management of the apartments should be on the ball too (of course this does depend).

You can call on the number : 058 319 47 00 for requesting cancellation.

While Cancelling Contract with EWZ, You will also have to provide the New Address where they can send the final bill.

In case you are moving out of Switzerland permanently then you can provide address of your friend where they can send final bill.
