I was wondering if anyone has any experience with plumber/electrician preferably that speak some English here in Basel. Thnaks for any help you can give me.

when my water heater blew up i called axima in holeestrasse and a woman answered but put a guy on the phone that spoke english.
i guess the water heater is plumbing of a sort.
he sent round a workman that spoke english too and when that guy couldnt fix it he rang the company that made the heater/boiler/burner thing and got them to also send someone english speaking who did fix it. only took 24hrs despite the palaver.
just found his card. says hes a heating engineer so prob no good but give it a shot.

hes not the axima guy. think axima do a wider range of stuff. just call it cant hurt. you can find axima in phone book.

i have been trying to tackle all this stuff since my swiss husband went and find people are so much nicer to me than they were to him that i have no fear anymore. so far so good.

what kind of electrical work do you need done? Simple fittings, telephone, cable, demolition, rewiring building? These are all different types of people really.

I am not familiar with the Basel area but you are looking for two different kinds of people. If you can manage in German, even a little, you might be able to navigate this website.

On the left side of the page is a list of all the trades. If you click on the one you need, for example, you will then be shown a map and you can click on where you live and then a list of companies will be shown. Many have websites. A lot of these are smaller companies. I like the site's logo "Don't do it yourself". You can also look in the telephone directory and just call around. The other possibility is to ask a neighbour if they can recommend someone. If you rent you should ask the owner or property manager for assistance.
