Housing & Furniture in Baden !

Hi All,

I am about to relocate to Baden by the end of this month to join ABB, please can any one advise by the following:

1) How can I find a flat in Baden ?

2) Is there a nice area around Baden where can I live in with easy transportation to ABB's office in case that I could not find a flat in Baden ?

3) where can I buy furniture ?

4) I knew that I can get a monthly pass to the public transportation & SBB, how much does it cost ?

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Ahmed

Re: Housing & Furniture in Baden !

Hi and welcome to Switzerland, Baden and ABB!

1) The best way to find a flat in Baden is to use web search engines such as www.homegate.ch or www.nabhome.ch

2) There are many outlying small towns and villages with good train or bus connections to Baden. What's nice or not depends on your taste. There is nothing that I would consider REALLY bad though. www.sbb.ch will give you train and bus times between wherever and Baden.

3) Many places to buy furniture too. There is an IKEA not far away. If you want something more upscale there is the central store for Möbel Pfister about1 hour away. There are quite a few local furniture stores too.

4) The cost of a monthly pass will depend on where you live. http://www.a-welle.ch will give you details about a local train/bus pass.

Anything else you need to know just holler. What part of ABB will you be joining?

Re: Housing & Furniture in Baden !

Hi, Thank you very much for your cooperation.

I will be joining ABB-Power Systems to work as a Project Manager.

I may take this opportunity to ask you about my offered salary, they offered me the following:

1) Gross Basic salary (Monthly): CHF 9,500 (= CHF 114,000 Annual)

2) Annual Bonus: Fixed (one month paid on Dec) + Variable (upto 10% of the total annual income)

3) Relocation allowance: CHF 12,000.

To be honest I do not know whether my offered salary is within the market salary level of a Project Manager (with 12 years of experience) or not.

Please can you advise ?

Thank you again.

Given that salary and conditions are treated pretty much confidentially and this is an open forum, I would think twice about posting something as detailled as what you have...but that's your call.

ABB has a fairly intricate salary system and tries to achieve a balance across the board, so it is unlikely that your are being treated shabbily. Without knowing the finer details, the figure you mentioned seems as though it is "in the band".

The 13th month salary is fairly standard in Switzerland. Bonuses vary at ABB depending on position, etc, but 10% seems fair to me.

Relocation allowance seems fair. If you want someone to help with your relocation and particularly finding an apartment I know a good relocation consultant (although to be fair I must tell you she is my wife!). If you are interested PM me and I will give you her contact details.

Regards
Mike
