| | | Number of rooms when looking for an apartment
Hi,
Wondered if you can shed light on the no. of rooms situation. Been looking at accomodation in Lausanne and there are choices of number of rooms. If I am looking into a place with 2 bedrooms whats the minimal option? It's all in French so I am trying to guess what it all means with my very rusty French!
Thanks

very easy... number of bedrooms + living room + living area (usually half) also the other .5 could be a big corridor/spacewhere all the rooms open up to...
you should be looking for 3.5 to 4 if you find anything with 3 "piece" with good size i.e 80sqm to 120 sqm then it's worth considering... not sure ur going to be that fortunate with space..
good luck

If a 6.5 zimmer house is avertised in the paper how many bedrooms is it likely to have?
Is the Kitchen counted as a room? If the house has a lounge / dinner is that counted as one room or maybe 1.5 rooms?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

I've combined Threads so this gives you a various answers which, may, or may not, be accurate.
Around here, kitchen, bathroom, cloackroom/separate WC do not count as rooms.
1/2 room is usually a bit 'added' to the lounge (perhaps to be used as a dining area)
What actually makes a bedroom a bedroom anyway?
In England bedrooms are usually upstairs. Here, sometimes the 'bedrooms' are downstairs to allow the living rooms 'upstairs' the better view. One bedroom can often easily be used as an office etc. so one really needs to see the plan of the house to see what room can be used for what.

Yes I know its a bit Confusing but its no. of rooms.
1.5 means 1 room and a kitchen where you can fit in a table and chairs.

Guys, I do rent apartments, this is the way I count:
1.0 for each bed room that merits the term:
- bed rooms
- living rooms
- dining rooms
0.5 for an exceptionally large living room. In no case I would add a 0,5 for a kitchen that has a possibility to place a table and some chairs
Bath rooms never count, as do wellness, or indoor swimming pools (except they are part of say a party room, but then it is a room really)
If I were you, I would ask for a plan view (to scale please) and count on my own. Any decent land lord will have that ready, if not, go, see measure and sketch, else look elsewhere.
greetings
chris

In my case, the .5 room is a large central 15 m2 entrance that all rooms open to.
But I agree with many comments here... in case of .5 flats, one has to ask what it refers to in each case.

yes
3.5 means one living room, one bed room, one kids or office room and the corridor is counted for .5 according to my understanding.

Ha ha, you're getting different answers to all your questions! In my experience looking for housing, I have deduced that a "1 bedroom" flat is the equivalent of a studio flat, and a "2-bedroom" flat would have a separate bedroom with living area, kitchen, and bathroom; a 3 room flat could either have 2 bedrooms or simply 2 rooms, one of which you could use as a living/dining room. It's generally assumed that the flat will have a kitchen and bathroom, but DON'T BE FOOLED! Sometimes the bathroom is located on another floor despite the place being advertised as a flat. Don't know if that's helpful, but it was really confusing to me at first too!!!
