Zurich vs Winterthur

Hello, I'll be moving to Zurich or Winterthur in May 08. . I'm moving in Switzerland for work and my office is in Winterthur. I’m considering living in Zurich to enjoy the city live. But I want to be close to the trains so I can get to work fast.

2 Questions:
1. Should I even consider Winterthur considering the lower prices
2. Where is Zurich should I look for place considering I have to go to Winterthur every day.

Re: Zurich vs Winterthur

It is extremely diffucult to find accomodation in zuirch, I would recommand staying in winterthur, it is only 20minutes from winterthur main station to zurich if that, plus you have the benefit that winterthur is much cheaper.

Re: Zurich vs Winterthur

Try Stettbach/Dübendorf area. It is convenient for both Zürich, 8 minutes, and Winterthur, 13 minutes.
The public transport system here is excellent. Plus there is a weekend night service running every hour in the Canton.

Re: Zurich vs Winterthur

Zurich West is the former industrial section of town and has lots of clubs, bars and restaurants. The S16 is 3 stops between Hardbrucke and Winterthur...about 20-25 minutes by train. Nice place to live and only a few minutes walk from the city center. But as many have pointed out, prices are higher and availability is limited. I chose to live in town to be close to work and because my assignment is only a few years. I want to take advantage of being in the center of things.

With a family (not sure of your circumstances), maybe Winterthur is easier.

Good luck.

Re: Zurich vs Winterthur

I live in Winterthur and work in Zürich

If you will work in Winti then I recommend you live in Winterthur, this will make travelling so much easier and give you a lot more time during the day (even though Zurich is only 25min by train).

The train connections from Winterthur main station to Zurich main station are really good, lots of trains, and lots of them are the fast trains (one 1 stop between Winti and Zuri). Last train at night is around 00:30 I think, from Zuri back to Winti.

Winterthur has a nice compact old town with everything in walking distance, if you can find an apartment in or around the main railway station in Winterthur, then you will be walking distance from the biggest supermarket in Winterthur (Migro Neuwiesen), the old town with bars, shopping, cinemas etc, and of course the main train station.

Winterthur is nice to live, and feels more Swiss than Zurich - which is more international.

We live on the edge of Winti, with a farm over the fence, nice for our children.

Those are all great suggestions. Thank you all!
I'll be moving alone at this stage.
