Apartment search in Pully. Any need to know info on the area as well as Lausanne

Hi!
Happy new year to you all, wishing you peace, love and good health!

My family of 6 is planing to move from Stockholm,Sweden to Lausanne. We have 4 daughters age 10,7,4 and 1. We are looking for an apartment in Pully since we have heard so much about schools around there being better equipt to accommodate non french speaking children. So if anyone has any tips on finding at least a 2 bedroom apartment as a to starting point,i would appreciate it.We hope to move in February.
Secondly, i will be taking a trip to Lausanne/Pully in a week to visit. So any suggestions on where to visit bearing in mind the things we need to be taking into account moving in a new town.
Thank you in advance for any tips.

I suggest looking for some temporary accommodation first as competition for property is fierce in the Lausanne area and if you don't already have a permit to live here you're likely to be behind other candidates. Also the next "official" moving date is 31st March so your choices may be more limited because of that. Few people move between September and March here.

You're going to need a minimum of 6 rooms (living room and 5 bedrooms - kitchens/bathrooms don't get counted in the listings) or 6.5 (living/dining room combined and the 5 bedrooms) so you'll be looking at around CHF3,000+ a month rental. Might be able to get away with a 5 or 5.5 if the baby and 4 year old share a room, but that still puts you around CHF2,800 a month.

Use these sites to see what's available and in your price range.

I lived in Pully for 4 years and loved it. Pully, like Lausanne is built on a rather steep hillside, so bear that in mind if you dont like hills!!

Finding an apartment is very difficult, so dont expect to just take the first one you see. They choose you, not the otherway round. Take any applications to the rental agencies yourself. I found by having personal contact with them seemed to help.

Before I got an apartment I had looked a loads and it took 6 months of searching, but that was for a small studio and they are very much in demand with students.

There is a lovely outdoor pool down by the lake and some nice restaurants too around the port area. The town is not large, but nice and has everything you will need. Trams into the city are very frequent and it has two train stations.

Its a nice walk all along the lake side to Vidy, the lakeside of Lausanne. I very much liked living in Lausanne/Pully. In fact, it is my favourite part of Switzerland.

Oh, and reading your post again a 2 bed apartment definitely won't meet the Swiss standard for accommodation under family reunification.

https://www.ch.ch/en/family-reunification-eu-efta/

The term's a bit vauge, but usually works on the principal of number of occupants less one which is why I said you might get away with a 5-5.5 place if the younger children share. You need a bedroom for you and your wife, one each for the older children and one for the two youngest which means you need at least 4 bedrooms. You also need to keep in mind that the 4 year old will probably need a separate room in 2-3 years' time (not sure what age it's considered they need their own room) so depending on what you find in your price range that you like it might be better to go straight for the 6-6.5 option.

Do you already have a job to come to here? If not, that may also make it more difficult to find a place.
