I’ve seen a few houses around our way have hot water solar panels fitted to their rooves recently. With the temperature in my South facing office today, this has got to be a good way to heat your water. Does anyone have any idea how much a solar hot water system costs? I have to replace an electric water heater soon anyway, so it would be a good time to go the whole hog. Also, does anyone know if Baselland give tax breaks for such an investment in “greener” energy?

If I go through with it, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hi, thanks for the link. I'd come across this tread, but am only thinking of solar for heating the water rather than the house. The house is jointly heated with three others from a central oil boiler. So I'd be interested to know the costs and benefits of installing solar water heating only.

I'm also still interested if anyone knows if there are tax breaks for this.
