Re: best place to livein a french part

I live in Versoix a village about 10kms from Geneva. Great for families. Lots of walks, forest close by etc and Geneva easily accessible by train, road. What is your budget? PM or call me on my natel if you need more info 079 413 1005. There are plenty of nice areas in Geneva. Rgds Bruce

Re: best place to live in a french part

We live in Lausanne.
Cheaper than Geneva, easier to find a flat. But smaller !

The areas under the train station and Eastern Lausanne (Montchoisi and cities like Pully or Lutry) are lovely places for kids. Close to the Lake, lots of parks, good public schools... I would definitively recommend !

But I would also say that there are lovely places between Geneva and Lausanne, small villages. Depends what kind of environment you are looking for (city center, village ?)

Happy to help if you want, just PM me !

Anahe

One thing that you should take into account is your commute time to work.

I did both : 3 years in France and then 4 years in Switzerland. Both have their advantages and disadvantages but only you can choose the best option based on your personal situation.

Things to take into account when comparing the two options :

- Life style (living in the center of Geneva or in a remote village is a totally different experience)
- Commute time & associated costs
- Infrastructure (especially school system if you have kids)
- Type of work permit you will get (some banks will not allow employees living in France - G permit)
- Taxes

Re: best place to live in a french part

I worked in Lausanne and Geneva. Nyon was very nice, and
I found the train connections excellent, close to Geneva and
close to Lausanne.

Taxes will be based on your family situation and income. I don't think there's a general rule that applies saying France is cheaper or more expensive than Switzerland regarding taxes. Especially since in Switzerland taxes are different depending on which commune you live.

Your calculation should also take into account the kind of services you receive from the country, for example if I had a big health issue I'd rather be in France where the public system would take care of the costs than in Switzerland where you have to be privately insured ...
