How much furnished is "furnished"?

Hello everyone,

I will be moving to zurich in april. This agency is looking for a furnished apartment for me. My question is when they say furnished, what do i expect to find there? i need to know, to pack my things accordingly. Could you please if the below items would exist:
  1. Bed
  2. Couch / Sofa
  3. Closet
  4. TV
  5. Microwave
  6. Fridge
  7. what else?
Also would love if you could tell me what should I pay attention to. little details that might escape me...??

Re: How much furnished is "furnished"?

Beyond the most basic things, there will probably be a lot of variability in how furnished is "furnished". The basics would be a bed, couch, tables, cupboards (closets). In the kitchen you'd have a fridge, oven, table and chairs. However, there's no guarantee on the microwave oven (there wasn't one in the small furnished place that I was in when I first arrived), and any other electronic devices like TV also may or may not be included.

Therefore, you need to wait until the agency finds an exact appartment for you, and then ask what is in that apartment. As to your question of what details to pay attention to, I do not have any great ideas, sorry.

You'll also have plates & cuttlery included.
Some furnished apartments have telephone lines set-up & you're welcomed to activate it and pay the bills yourself..

It could be cheaper over 6-9 months+ to get unfurnished and buy stuff from Ikea and there is a flea market somewhere around Hardbrücke for TV etc

You'll get fridge in an unfurnished.

Usually, there is a premium for furnished digs...

I agree.. if you know you're going to stay in that apartment for almost around a year or more than it's better to opt for an unfurnished apartment & buy furniture from Ikea. You'll have the option of selecting your own furniture and you'll end up paying less and own the furniture. However, if you don't want the hassels of buying & installing then sure you can go for a furnished apartment...
