hot water not coming through tap

Hi all,
I live in Vevey, in the canton of Vaud.
Today morning when I woke up and tried to used hot water from the tap, I was in for a shock.... there was no hot water .
I remember that even last night there was no issue with it. I stay in a building which has 8 apartments. I have the following questions:
1. Is hot water specific to the apartment I am staying or is it common to the entire building? In other words, is this a problem only for my apartment or all the apartments in my building will face this issue.
2. If its only my problem, whom do I call - electricity, water, etc. ?
3. Assuming that I have to get it fixed, what could be the approximate costs involved?
4. Could it be that its because of a fuse or electricity breakdown? The electricity is just working fine.

Thanks and regards
Baps

Re: hot water not coming through tap

It usually affects the entire building and you should be calling the janitor / hauswart or the regie (sp?) / hausverwaltung / administration.

This happened to our apartment block about a dozen times after we had a new boiler installed in the cellar. You have to inform your landlord or agency and they will get a plumber in to start the boiler again.

With us, it got so bad that the landlord gave us the emergency mobile number of the plumber and we just contacted him directly every time we had no hot water. Finally they installed a new pilot light (or whatever technical bit was faulty) and the problem went away.

You are absolutely not responsible for any costs related to this. The plumber should invoice the landlord directly.

Re: hot water not coming through tap

This happened to us a few yrs ago, and the problem was our boiler was broken, i contacted the landlord, and they sorted it out for, they rang for the plumber and arranged for him to come over, in the end we needed a new boiler, no hot water for 1 week

I hope you get your hot water back soon, nothing worse than trying to wash with cold water

Re: hot water not coming through tap

Thanks all for your help. I didn't have to complain also. After 2-3 days of erratic hot water supply, it was restored. What a relief .
