Carpet replacement

Hi,

I have moved out from my apartment but the turnover has been postponed because I have to have the carpet replaced...

My former apartment has its attic covered with carpet and one time last year when it was so hot and the attic wood doesn't smell good, I opened the windows a bit to allow some air to get in. Unfortunately, I fell asleep downstairs and woke up finding part of the carpet wet, it rained.

Now that I have to turnover the apartment, the current estimate for the material and labor is 4000 CHF. For me, it is really a big amount but of course, I'm not in the position to tell.

Does anyone happen to know someone who could possibly do the job for a much much lower price?

Any comment, help, tip is apreciated in advance.

Thanks,
gnehw

Re: Carpet replacement

Wouldn't your insurance cover at least part of that?

Re: Carpet replacement

How old is the carpet? Over a certain age, you can tell the landlord to go whistle.

Re: Carpet replacement

Unfortunately, I tried to get insurance before but because there was some difference in my name in the contract, I requested for some updates and had not received it. Got busy with other things and missed it.

As for the age of the carpet, they said that it was new before we moved in. But they said that that we have to change the carpet for the whole floor area to ensure that they are of the same color, also because the caret, as they said, cannot be cut crosswise. wahhh
(if only there's a way that they could change only the 2 parts that were wet, it would have been a lot less damage)...
