How many person are allowed in an apartment

Hi ,
How many person are allowed in a 4.5 zimmer in zurich.
does this vary from apartment to apartment?
What is the rule of AAS?
Is it ok if 9 people stay there for a week or two ,when the house contract(rent agreement) is signed for 3 of those nine(the remaining 6 are family members of those 3)?
My family is coming to visit me, they will be staying in my house only for the night and they will start for tourist places in switzerland, every morning after ready in morning. The thing is that I do not want to waste money for a hotel stay just to entering late night and starting early in the morning everyday. Anyways I just need it for around 10 days of there stay here.
Is it possible that neighbour can complain or can report it? in such case what is the maximum penalty.

Regards,
Pmittal

Re: How many person are allowed in an apartment

I don't know the law on this but I have the feeling that no-one can complain if you have guests staying with you in the flat you rent.

However, by implication at least, there's a slight difference between 'ten days' and 'a week or two', which can easily mean three weeks!

Especially if the house is usually very quiet and if you can communicate with your (Swiss) neighbours, I would suggest you tell them, without making any big deal about it, that you are expecting guests so there will be slightly more coming and going than usual. Then it is quite clear from the start that the folk are not moving in with you and that any extra noise etc. is only temporary.

Hope you have a great time.

We have had holiday guests when we lived in an apartment - and found the best thing was to let the owner of the apartment know (ask his permission). That is considered the polite thing, and circumvents any possible problems with any repercussions from neighbors. Informing the neighbors is also a good move.

Yep, its a good idea. What I have done is told my landlord from the beginning that I would have my mom or my sis coming and staying for a few weeks. They told me that I only needed to tell them when someone would stay here permanently, as in someone with a residence permit and paying taxes...but if you havent checked with your landlord first it would be nice to let them know

Re: How many person are allowed in an apartment

Way back I remember a contract I once had which stated 'three days' for guests. I think it's more to do with power and hot water use rather than being mean. This would only apply to a shared appartment (a WG) where the contract is protecting the interests of the other people in the appartment. However, if you live on your own it's no issue. It may be polite to let the landlord know but I wouldn't bother - it's likely to cause more issues. Tell any neighbours though; they may find it weird having so many people traipsing around.

Re: How many person are allowed in an apartment

You are allowed to have visitors staying with you, that is part of normal living and allowed.

Don't worry about it, you don't have to ask anyone for permission

If the visitors become permanent, then it is a different story...

Exactly, you can have how many people you want (for visiting only).

I remember the first time my sister invite us on her Nashville appartment and that she tell us that she could only have 2 visitors for 2 weeks... It was so strange for us...

The only thing is that you can't make more noise than usual.

As others have said, inform your neighbours and it's no problem.

Re: How many person are allowed in an apartment

It should be a problem for few days unless they make lots of noise and disturb neighbours....

They is only rule for how many people can register wtih same residence address... guests/visitors are always allowed to stay.
