Where to put Apartment number in the address?

Hello,

I live in apartment #10 of my building. How do i indicate this in my address?

For example, would this be correct?

XYZstrasse 56, #10
1234 Zurich

You don`t. Apt. #`s are not necessary, and are actually frowned upon. Don`t worry. You will get your bills...

If your doorbell has a name on it, it shouldn't be a problem. Usually the postmen just ring the bell and you have to go down to get your parcel. Ours rarely come upstairs looking for names on doors.

You can write the appt. no on your address if you want. I wouldn't say it is frowned upon - just not very common. Then it would look something like this:

Mr X Man
XYZstrasse 56, Whg 10
1234 Somecity

"Whg" standing for "Wohnung"

Hope you get your parcels.

They'll know where you live because you name is on the letter box. If it isn't get it on their quickly!

There are several traditions in Switzerland when it comes to displaying your address.

The first one is as you have found there are no apartment numbers, the second one and most importantly is to make sure that the number of the building is in the most obscure place possible so know one will ever find it.

In my building for instance we have the number 4 on our entrance, even though we live at number

Thirdly make sure that is you are getting mail for someone else, their name is on the letter box as well otherwise the postie won't know which slot to put in.

thank you. the reason i have to do this is because i'm living in a corporate apartment for the first few months and I am not sure if they will bother to put my name downstairs since people come and go all the time.

This is not strictly true. A family member has a holiday flat and all flats in the building (about 60 - 70 of them), have their building letter and flat number in the address. (i.e. Haus A, Whg 23 or Haus B, Whg 14)

Perhaps an exception to the rule.

Is your company's name on the appartment? If so, either address it to that name at the address, or to yourself, c/o their name, or something like that.
