| | | Embarassing question re:Landlady
So, last month I was quite sick, as was hubby. Some may remember I'd posted about my kitchen sink (for about a month) as well as my dishwasher (for over a month) not working.
Well, on the day the plumber came to make final repairs to my sink (the gasket between drain and pipe had rotted - according to my landlady it was because I used vinegar to clean ), the landlady came along with.
Well, while she was here, she casually "inspected" the apartment and decided that she thinks I do not clean well enough.
There was a small amount of "kalk" build up around the drain in the bathroom sink as well as in the toilet basin... as well as some grease marks that the plumber and dishwasher repair / installation folks had put on the sink which I'd left as I knew we were expecting them to come back - I am "lazy" enough that I don't want to have to clean up after repair people two days in a row - I'd rather do a good job when they're done.
Other than general clutter that was result of normal life and lethargy from two adults sick (for about two weeks) in the home at the same time, that was all that was "wrong."
Anyhow... now that the shameful details are out... the landlady wants to come back and inspect our apartment to make sure it is clean.
I am hardly a combination of Susie Homemaker and June Cleaver rolled into one, out to get my apartment published in Better Homes and Gardens but I certainly do not belong in a production of "How Clean is Your House" or whatever that show is...
However: Does she have any right to ask this of us? As far as I am concerned, she should NOT concern herself with the cleanliness of our apartment at all except at the time she handed the keys to us and again when we hand the keys to her.
Hubby says not to let her in but I really do not want to make problems. Apparently having kalk in the toilet makes us filthy pigs that she has to concern herself with (and her son-in-law commenting to hubby that he needs to train his wife right ). I am so angry about this I could chew nails.
(For the TLDR folks, the important stuff is bolded )

Invite her to **** off.
She has no right at all. No right to check and no rights of entry.
Tell her she can do her inspection when you move out and you will be using a company with a handover guarantee.

Yup, you can live like a slob during your tenancy but as long as you return the apartment spanking clean at the end, she has no right to interfere. The cheek!!!! I am quite sure that she cant evict you for being a slob (and that itself, is subjective! ).
PS: glad to hear that you are on the mend Peg!

Ah, the Swiss and their kalk problems. Sounds like she has NOTHING better to do than to feel superior in her home-grown housekeeping skills and to let you know it. Tell her to politely bugger off next time she suggests inspecting. Although, does she have her own key??
What a whacko!

I feel I must rephrase my reply.
What you want to do is thank her for your input but remind her that the only inspection she must do is when the apartment is vacated at the end of your tennacy.

By the way in case anyone's interested, I find this little fella from Migros EXTREMELY effective against kalk. Just spray and taaadaaa...spanking shiny new taps, shower heads once you're done!

I think it is time for a whole new thread dedicated to household cleaning products.

nope tell her to get lost!! when we moved house we not only had to leave the house in an orderly fashion ( with doors and windows still intact) BUT we also had to hire professional cleaners to give it the once over!! had I know this the kids could have had mud parties in the house!!
you're house ...you're rules!!!

tell her off and don't let her in.
don't worry about pissing her off as I think she doesn't care the landlord-tenant relationship at all. I would imagine that she would investigate the appartment in cm details on the day you hand over to her, either you let her in to check it regularly or not.
sorry for you to have such a troublesome landlord.

(For the TLDR folks, the important stuff is bolded ) | | | | | Ahhh the swiss and the cleaning issue.... Your landlay is really intolerable.
As everything in switzerland are managed by rules and Law you have the following options:
- check your rent contract for terms that would allow her to make this verification routine
- if not, then the only thing that applies is the Swiss Bible for managing the daily life: Code des Obligations (in french) or Obligationenrecht (in german). Here is the link to the appropriate section (in german): http://www.admin.ch/ch/d/sr/220/a257h.html
From my understanding she can't inspect unless you gave her notice to leave the appartment. But please check it again.

Sorry but she has the right to inspect your living space if she announces it prior to the visit.
However she can not make a inspection unsupervised and without you being in the flat unless you allow it.
I would be very careful in telling her to urinate off.

Yes, please, I'd like to know the source?
I did try looking this stuff up both here and on broader search via Google but as I was searching in English, *all* of what came back was regarding laws / rights in the UK. | |
