Possible to rent before phsically moved to geneva?
Hi everyone,
I am moving to Geneva in May. I did some research about housing in Geneva/France. I am wondering if it's possible to rent something even before I phsically move to the town?
I do know renting something permanently is time-consuming. But even for subletting, I think I have to be in town personally, right?
Just so confused at the rening process and would like to have some ideas. I subscribed some alerts and got emails on new ad. but not sure what I should do next.
Re: Possible to rent before phsically moved to geneva?
Hi,
We recently moved to Geneva. We decided to find temporary accommodation for the first 3 months which we found on Glocals.com (a community of expats in Geneva). We visited the apartment over Skype video and we figured that even if it was crappy, it would only be for a short amount of time.
I wouldn't look for something permanent though. Best to get to know the city first and decide where to live based on your work etc ...
Even in CH, scams exist, I'd only send money in advance to a bank account (vs Westernunion . moneygram) and would demand a sub lease agreement.
So yes, it's possible, but you must use your common sense.

Can't Vouch for Geneva, but we rented our flat (contact signed, deposit and advance rent paid) before we moved to CH. Was a bummer to fly here back and forth for the viewings though.
