is it possible to test for a day an apartment to buy?

after a long long search it seems that we have finally found the apartment we like and we are considering to buy it

the apartment is pretty new (2001). it is well done, has beautiful wooden floor, nice kitchen and bathrooms. everything look nice, but the question is do things really work

? for sure yes, but how can i really know it? I mean we went through the apartmnet with the owner and we were never left alone (well that is still her place). so i dont know whether the shower is working well, the buth tube is not stuck, the heating or the washing machine makes noise and so on.

is it possible to try the apartment for half a day or so before finally signing the contract

as your looking to make a considerable investment, just ask.... would think thats reasonable.

I think your real question is : Will I be driven from the premises with a sharp stick by the current lady that owns it when she is insulted by what you are implying ? Probably. But insist upon it anyway.

Switzerland may be a sellers' market, but it is not unreasonable to expect the flush the toilet and run the shower to see if it has enough pressure and so on. I suggest making an appointment to 'measure up' to see if you furniture will fit and tell the owner it will couple of hours and really get the feel of the place.

I would also recommend hanging about outside at various times of day to see if kids play football under the windows, commuter traffic can be heard and that it's not on the southern approach to the airport...

As well as to check the light incident at several times of day.

thanks all. it is for sure a huge investement for us. it's a modern big flat, in town, with the view of the river.
the lady offered us to come and see the apartment in the eveining or at other time of the day. this is nice, but if she is around all the time we end up sitting on her couch and discussing about other things
