Re: Mould in Bathroom ceiling ( Schimmel )

I had the same problem and I used the Cilit Bang against mould (the one in the purple bottle with the white top spray part) and that took care of it.

Re: Mould in Bathroom ceiling ( Schimmel )

Javelwasser (liquid bleach) mixed 50/50 with water.
Spray directly on mold. It will kill it and bleach the color white.
Wear glasses.

Re: Mould ( Schimmel ) Problem - Solutions?

You really need to talk to your landlord as this will return again and again. One measure is to paint the ceiling with an oil based gloss paint. Then the moisture cannot get through the paint and the mould dies.

Re: Mould ( Schimmel ) Problem - Solutions?

You can also buy cheap dehumidifiers and a window cleaning rubber blade (not sure the proper name but I think you know what I mean) to remove water from tiles/glass/walls etc after baths and showers helps a lot! We lived in Singapore and dehumidification was pretty widespread to control similar problems.

How Do I Kill Mold from Condensation ( Mould / Schimmel )

So during this winter, my windows tend to get condensation on them during the day and will drip a bit. This is especially true with my skylights. With the wet surfaces, they are getting moldy. I can wash most of it away, but the mold just grows right back. In the US we had Tilex and a variety of mold killing products for showers and surfaces. What is the equivalent product here? I looked in Coop and saw nothing in the bathroom cleaner section. Do they have bleach? Any suggestions would be great.

Re: How Do I Kill Mold from Condensation

I bough a product specifically for mold, I think I got it at one of the home improvement type stores (Obi, Jumbo, Coop Bau + Hobby, something like that).

It is Mellerud brand "Schimmel Entferner" and the picture on the front actually shows a windowsill with mold growing around it. We used it last year for the bedroom windows which have a wooden frame, so far the mold hasn't come back.

(Photo found here)

Looking for photos of the product, it seems the bottles purchased in Germany (predictably and understandably) only have German on them, the one I got looks like this pic, with French and Italian as well.

Re: How Do I Kill Mold from Condensation

I have the same problem, it's driving me crazy. The landlor pretends it's my fault because I'm not airing the place enough and not heating enough...

In the end, I bough an electric dehumidifier, and I run it in every room for about an hour every day, plus opening the windows 10 min twice a day. But all my windows are soaking wet every morning...

don't use water, it just provides more moisture. dry and clean the place. maybe zap it with ethanol to properly kill everything.

Hello,

This is my first winter in Switzerland. Last week I have noticed mold in the bathroom ceiling and is spread as green and black spots for about 3-4 feet.

There are a lot of ways to clean it up (as mentioned so far) but what you should do is get rid of it. Only way to get rid of it is to identify what is causing it, if there is a problem it will probably happen again. In my experience as a builder I have found that there are three common causes:
-plumbing, cracks in pipes
-waterproofing, usually around showers on the level above
-exhaust fans, vents can end up partly or completly blocked over time so when the fan sucks the air it becomes traped and finds it's way into the bathroom ceiling. Bathrooms normally have suspended ceilings to hide the plumbing from the bathroom above (in apartments).
