does anyone know or have use any housing agencies in Geneva? And what is the standard practise in renting an apartment? I have looked at apartments on immostreet.ch. Does one email to the address stated on this website and wait for their reply before viewing the apartment? Any information would be good.

I might have misunderstood what you're trying to ask but if I didnt, it works like any other country doesnt it?

1. See an apartment you like online
2. Email / call the details listed on the ad and make an appointment. You dont stroll up to the apartment, knock on the door and demand to see it immediately do you?

There are paid agents / agencies who can attempt to find a house for you. They are not cheap mind you.

You must be referring to relocation agents then. Do a search and I am sure there are some based in Geneva. Or PM a fellow member named gata. She was singing praises about hers - and she is based in Geneva.

If you didn't already know, here is a PDF for a typical housing application ( in DE ). Notice what information they ask, with the proper answers, the chances of being selected will increase. It also shows you that one would nearly always be present here in CH with a permit in order to be first considered.

I've had refugees with a B permit paying CHF3500 for two month's of work to the agents resulting in nothing. So I am not sure how effective house hunters can be for you.

In this market esp. GVA and ZRH, it is the landlord / agency that selects the tenant, especially one that fits the bill - quiet type, learnt the local language in order to understand the house rules, debt / stain free, reliable paymaster, will blend with existing tenants in the building etc.

In french speaking Geneva, the listing agencies for apartments are called regies. See this website for a listing.

However, from what you are talking about, you probably are in need of a relocation agent, paying someone to find an apartment on your behalf.
