either you're doing a monthly rent vs annual salary, or you have a very nice salary!

I pay 15%. Yes, there are still affordable places around if you're prepared to look. The building looks a bit grubby outside and faces a very busy road, but inside it's all nice and recently refurbished, and to me its the inside that matters.

I think you need to consider whether you are using just the basic rent or adding the NK + utilities which can change the percentage quite a bit.

About 15.5% of gross salary, including the included utilities etc. Comparatively, rent is the one 'cheap' thing I've found in Switzerland.

DINKs, for the record.

39% of my net salary (as part of moving to Zurich, said I'd pay the rent but to a max which equals 39% of my salary - partner is meant to pay rest). A place we almost took would have taken 31% of my net salary.

The flat is very nice (atypical, 150 m2 with only three bedrooms but a big mezzanine, two bathrooms as usual, two balconies, fireplace), but to be honest a bit too rich/sophisticated for our needs/finances. It's a very long way from the council house I grew up in!

And it's not even in Zurich, that's the bit that gets me. 11 min walk to one SBB station, or 20 minute (or 4 minute bus ride) to other SBB station (which also has the start/end of a tram line). I really hate this, and am not sure I'll truly be happy in the place.

Really paying too much IMHO, but as already pointed out, we (family) spend more time at home that anywhere else. And the rest of the family like it, so I suppose all in all it's a good deal. But FFS, 39%...

I'd included NK. To be honest utilities are pretty inconsequential: electric at 45 a month based on actual usage, Internet, tv and billag at 93 a month. No landline. The car on the other hand is a money pit, but worth it.

Can someone recommend a website to find housing that is affordable and trustworthy? I don't know where to look. I have a 7 lbs. Yorkshire Terrier dog that will be with me.
What type of deposits should I expect, as well as overall expectations from the owners of the apartment.
