Where to find industrial units for rent

Hi,

I'm looking for somewhere in the Zurich where i can rent some space to use for woodworking in the evenings/weekends.

Ideally i'd like to be able to rent somewhere 30-60 square meters in an industrial area of the city, so i could happily hammer and saw away until quite late at night or at weekends without having to worry about disturbing anyone. I've been keeping an eye out on immo.search.ch for a few months now, but i've come up with absolutely nothing so far. The only results seem to be for hobby rooms or factory size industrial units.

I guess there must be industrial estates/business parks in the city for small/startup businesses, but i've not had much luck finding any suitable ones.

If anyone has any ideas i'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

What part of Zurich are you looking ? Last year I was out west in Unterengstringen, looking for the same thing, but found nothing. Now I'm out near Volketswil but haven't look here yet - with two very young children the woodworking gear is currently very unused :-(

Regards.

PitBull.

Re: Where to find industrial units for rent

I have a room for things like this but will loose it by the end of this month

There is this building in Adliswil (close to Sood oberleimbach station) where there is 180 square meter for rent. Maybe it would be possible to rent with a group of people and divide it into multiple 30 / 60 square meter workshops.

I build two foldable kayaks in my room from wood and aluminium tube, am very sad to see my room go

P.S. a hobbyroom here in CH is for making things from paper or cloth, activities where no noise or powertools are involved. Once you start talking about sawing and milling of wood and aluminium a hobbyroom is not what you're looking for...

I'm losing my room as my company moves location, I haven't tried contacting my works Verwaltung though, maybe the room would be for rent....

Re: Where to find industrial units for rent

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Pitbull,
I'm living in Kreis 5, near Hardbrucke, and i work near Selnau. Ideally, I'd like somewhere in the city...probably around Kreis 5 or in Binz. There still seem to be a lot of industrial buildings in the Kreis 5 area....unfortunately i can't find a small one for rent.

Bas,
I have a hobbyroom at the minute but as you said, it's not really suitable. Firstly, It's in Männedorf so it takes me 45 minutes to get there. Secondly, I'm only allowed to use it until 8 at night which is not much use when i work until 6. Even before 8, I feel bad about making noise when i'm there....it's kind of tricky to use a bandsaw quietly

I have thought about going down the route of renting somewhere bigger and subletting part of it, but I'd rather not have the hassle of managing that. I'll wait until i get a bit more desperate for that option.

Can you give me a quick description of your room? It might not be ideal locationwise, but if it allowed me to work later in the evenings and make as much noise as i want, it would be a good upgrade.

Cheers
Dave

Re: Where to find industrial units for rent

I'll lose my room at the end of the month as my company (who graciously let me have it for free) move out of the building by the end of this year. So its not something you can rent after me, sorry.

I did call about this one in Adliswil :

http://www.homegate.ch/mieten/103380...ault&l=default

I called him as the ad stated 'teilflachen miete moglich' (renting part of the area is possible) about renting 30m^2. He wrote down my number but he prefers someone who rents the whole space. Very interesting bit about this room is that its accessible for motorcycles and could be used to work on motorcycles....

Re: Where to find industrial units for rent

Not in Zurich but a few thoughts--

I would be aware that even if you are in an industrial zone, you may not have the right to make noise at all hours of the day or night as you seem to want to do.

Around here, I would actually think you would have more luck renting a barn/workshed from a farmer than an industrial space, likely cheaper and more accomodating. Not sure if you want to go out of the city, but if so, this may be an option.

Also, perhaps look at time-sharing a space with an existing wood artisan, carpenter, lumber operation, or similar small wood working business. They generally work during work hours and seems you want to do the opposite. Perhaps also the possibility of sharing tools.

I would second that.
Go a little out of town and rent space from a Farmer.
