Car insurance questions - parking & "other risks"

So its my first ever car, and I'm rather clueless about insurance. I have a brand new car if that makes any difference to your opinions.

Basically would you guys recommend getting the extra insurances..

Parking risks - this is an extra 200CHF, but we will be parking it on the street. Worth it?

Other risks - vandalism, fire, contents, animals, etc. This costs an extra 400 and does'nt seem worth it to me. Thoughts?

Thanks for any tips!
Alan

Are you leasing? You're obliged to have at least full insurance. I expect that to include all of the above.

If you're bought a car with cash, who cares. You're loaded.

Inherited the car, definitely not loaded.

Re: Car insurance questions - parking & "other risks"

you said "brand new". What is the car?

You insure your risk. I've claimed on vandalism and parking most in the past 5 years, if that helps - but that was on a brand-new almost-100k car.

On a car worth 10k, I'd not spend 400 p.a. on certain risks. But that's my risk assessment.

The only claim we have made in almost 2 years was for 'parked damage' - some kids scratched some cars one night - all parked in the street. Very easy process to get it fixed, was glad to have no payment.

Re: Car insurance questions - parking & "other risks"

All insurances pay into a fond for when the person at fault cannot be found. I know this because I've 'benefited' from it as some drunk or whatever rammed the side of my car while it was parked. The major drawback is the excess CHF 1000. I've also got lucky once with a car scrapping mine in a parking lot. Thankfully it was only superficial so I could get it polished away. Personally I think I'd pay the CHF200 cause paying 1000 at once because of some idiot is not fun. Unless you have an excess on top of those 200 extra.

I've also got all the extras you've mentioned. CHF 400 may be alot but it's nothing compared to the damage of your car burning down to the frame, some drunk idiot deciding to take his anger out on your car or a marten feeling a bit hungry. Hail is also something you wanna have covered
