Health insurance sending bills from 2007-2009 to be paid now!

Hello all
I have a problem with my health insurance. They had forgotten to send me bills from 2007 to 2010, and consequently (and part of my fault for not paying attention to what is missing to be paid) now they just sent me a bunch of bills for a huge amount of money to be paid before 31/12/2010!!!

I am so used to receiving bills and pay them online or having them automatically paid that I overlooked the health insurance. Moreover, I have good health so I never had to deal with them so I could realize they haven't sent the bills.

For sure they will say "you have to pay what you owe now" and it is my interest to rectify this situation, but I find it unfair because is partly their job to send the bills. Before contacting them next week, I wanted to know whether someone had a similar experience or if there is any sort of customer office where I could inform myself what the regulations say.

Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestions

I have not had the same situation before so can not help regarding this but my experience is that the Swiss are quite fair. Speak to them and I am sure a good arrangement can be agreed on. I am sure they can see how they played a part in this as well and would want to work it out amicably...also perhaps to avoid the bad press!

Good luck

Re: Health insurance sending bills from 2007-2009 to be paid now!

We had just one skipped bill and a back payment of two months when we arrived here...that was bad enough for a family of 5 on a tight budget

Our health insurance company were more than happy to issue us with a broken up set of payment slips, due various times, according to the agreed payment schedule...

I'd be working out as quickly as possible what you can afford to pay, and how quickly you can clear the debt...and then make them an 'offer' on that basis....far less hassle for them than following you through the legal system...as long as you keep paying up... you might be lucky and avoid a bad credit history...or living on potatoes for the next year or two...
