Lack of reply from health insurance company

Hi,

I arrived to Switzerland in early February, and in mid-March I sent a basic insurance application to Avanex (and supplemental health insurance application to Aquilana). Immediately got reply from Avanex that they needed more time to process my application.

I got no policy from them within the next three weeks, so I called them back in early April and they promised it was being finalized and they would send it to me within 5 working days. But they did not do it for full 3 weeks, so I called them back again. The lady at the phone did see my data in their system but was unable to tell me what is the current status of my application, and promised they would send a letter to me, but it did not happen.

I need a proof of basic insurance to sign the supplemental health insurance contract, and it is pretty urgent for me. So I would like to have the basic insurance as soon as possible, and I do not care whether it is Avanex or some other company.

So, what options do I have? Can I force Avanex in any way to produce the policy quickly? Can I send insurance application to some other company, or am I bound to Avanex? (I did sign an insurance application, but I did not sign any contract.)

What is the typical time of waiting for basic insurance policy in Switzerland? If I am allowed to apply to another insurer, are there chances they would do this quickly?

Thanks,
Michał

But, Aquilina does basic insurance too... Why would you want to get a split policy like that?

Price, cover offered, exclusion criteria. There are many reasons to have split policies.

Exactly, I have chosen basic at Avanex for price, and supplemental at Aquilana for cover offered.

Of course, if I knew that issuing an insurance policy would be too difficult for Avanex, I would choose another insurer.

Ah, sorry. I have Aquilana, because it was by far the cheapest offer. I assumed that they offer a somewhat similar price to most people so assumed that it would have been around the same.

Re: Lack of reply from health insurance company

i have a similar experience with EGK. I was told that i will rcvd my policy within 3 weeks, i wait for around 6 weeks until i decided to stop by their office. He checked my data on the computer and told me that the policy was already sent to me long time ago. But he offered to print out a copy of my health insurance (for me to submit to the commune) while waiting for the original (he assume that the problem lies on the delivery, so i will rcvd it in the next couple days). I wait for another 4 weeks, but i still haven't rcvd the original copy. So i sent an email to the head office and got an instant reply that i supposed to rcvd it by the end of Feb, but they will send it again to me and i will rcvd it in 1 day. So, finally i got my original policy last week.

Please do not use abbreviated words on here. ('rcvd' for example). For non-native English speakers it can make the text very difficult to read and Google is pedantic about spelling sometimes, so searches are made difficult.
