| Hi,
Is there anyone knowing what is covered by basic insurance while giving birth at birthing house?
Or better - what is not covered and must be financed by yourself or from the additional insurance? How much can it be? | |

It depends on the birth house and your insurance policy - ask for a full price list and then ask your insurer is the short answer.
However, your medical fees are always covered, ie pregnancy check ups, blood tests, scans, midwife attendance at the birth, home visits afterwards and your post birth check up. Anything else you might have to pay yourself.
At the birth house I went to everyone had to pay a flat fee of several hundred and there was an additional fee if you lived in a certain area (i think these are due to the birth house getting no state support), and then my basic insurance did not cover the wochenbett if I wanted to stay in. Hence I decided to stay in only 1 night, but I didn't realise that you get charged per calendar day so staying overnight counts as 2 nights! The birth house will tell you the daily rate, for me it was around chf400 if I remember correctly. If I had wanted to give birth at home there would have been another charge of a couple of hundred but of course no wochenbett fee.
