Is Switzerland a litigious society

Is Switzerland a litigious society, We are planning to pitch a trampoline in the back garden...were happy for neighbors to use it but was just wandering what the position is regarding liability and insurance?

Technically it shouldn't be a problem as long as the neighbours are cool with it. To be on a safe side just check with your local gemeinde or landlord if there are any clauses in the contract stipulating otherwise. As long as you don't jump above neighbour's balcony line, tuja height and dogs won't bark too loud from excitment, you should be fine sky is a limit - enjoy.

I think he meant to ask what happens if a neighbour uses it and gets hurt.
OP ask your insurance company. I dont know but im guessing you need to have something just to be safe. Of course your neighbours should have accident insurance anyway but you never know

Generally, no. However, it is expected that everyone has Haftpflichtversicherung (liability insurance - I haven't a clue what it's called in French or Italian), which covers any accidents caused to a third party by negligence.

It isn't compulsory, but it will make your life much more comfortable if something does happen on your property. Mine costs a little more than 100 CHF a year.

Agree, this man is right re the insurance.

Re the propensity to sue in Switzerland - Generally people won't sue you, but if there is a unfortunate accident, resulting in say paraplegia, then the economic costs would be enormous, and you may well be sued.

As well as the insurance cover for liability I would consider insurance to pay legal fees - Rechtschutzversicherung. It's incredibly good value.

He's right - "people" won't generally sue you. But insurance companies certainly will!
