I have tried to get car insurance for my UK registered car without success.

I have used comparis but drawn a dead end when I have contacted the insurance companies direct (when their application forms required a swiss number plate).

I have searched this forum for the last two weeks but all of the links here to insurance companies that have insured UK registered cars in the past have lead me to companies that say that they no longer insure UK registered cars (ZurichConnect, Zurich main office, Gernerali, NVC) who now say, after consultation with their main office, that they no longer insure UK registered cars.

Links on this forum to an insurance advisor (jenny) no longer work. Somone who said that their insurance broker was "Mr Okey dokey" is not contactable.

In short it seems that the advice on this forum in this subject is now out of date. My 1 month green card (all my UK insurer would give me when they heard that I was taking up employment in Switzerland) runs out on the 12th June and my car will have to be parked up on my employers property until I get insurance.

Does anyone have current information about an insurance company, broker, advisor, anything, that can provide liability insurance(preferably in engllish) on my old, but well maintained car?

Take a look at the back of your certificate of motor insurance, it should say that it replaceds the need for a green card, probably in 4 launguages.
You will only get the minimium required insurance, but that is all your after AFAIK.

I was in the same situation like you couple of months back. but it got sorted now. hope it helps as well i believe. i am not sure how long you want to keep the uk plaes in switzerland but you have to do the following for two years from the day you first entered in to switzerland.

1. go to customs office in your canton. register your vehicle, take your car docs, your permit. ask for 15.30 form which they will give you after registering your car entry in to switzerland. they charge 25fr i believe. with this you can keep uk plates for your car without importing to swiss for two years. after which you definitely need to import your car or take it back to uk.

2. for insurance, you can speak to stuart collins, uk which they give insurance for any number of years but they are very expensive. this is one option

3. In case if you think stuart collin's insurance is expensive, the only other option is to first do the Swiss MOT which is very strict than uk. Most importantly make sure you adjust the lights according to european regualations or change it otherwise it will fail. Also appointment takes 3 to 4 weeks to get one. so make sure if you get an appointment you definitely pass the test. so please make sure the car is ready for the test. once you pass the test, the very next min all swiss insurer will insure your car.

4. so first speak to swiss insurer first, get the quote, take the quote and other docs, go to strassenverkehrsamt office, book an appointment or you can ask swiss insurer to book an appointment and they do everything for you and just opposite to uk insurers. they are very reliable. i have taken insurance from basler insurance and the representative that i dealt with was very helpful and very good. please PM if you need his details and he gave a very good quote and did a price match as welll. so you can ask for discount from any insurer and go with the better one. so i went with basler and he was so good that he almost read thro what is included and not included which no one will do i believe.
