Is car insurance more expensive?

We have heard that Swiss car insurance is much more expensive than in EU neighbouring countries. Is this correct? We are talking maximum no-claims bonus and comprehensive cover here.

Generally, yes.

Depending on the company you choose, you will either start from scratch or get a discount quite unrelated to your foreign no claims discount.

Re: Is car insurance more expensive?

We shopped around for the best quote before having to buy but we only had a few days to look. Our Swiss policy is still almost £500 more per year than the lowest quote we got in the UK for a similar vehicle. If your employer has a preferred insurance agent it may be worth dealing with the same person. It seems that person-to-person business deals are cultivated in Switzerland and the agent that arranges insurance for my wife's employer came up with the lowest quote for us.
