Hi Everyone,

After a long road getting my retired wife a permit card while I am working here in Zurich, I thought we can finally get her insurance card. I've been paying for her Swiss medical insurance all year but insurance company said they needed a copy of her permit card before they could issue her a insurance card.

Now the insurance company, after getting a copy of her permit card, is saying they need her "AHV Number". Issue is, she doesn't work and is not going to work.

Can anyone please help and tell me how we can get her an "AHV Number"?

She was issued with an AHV number (in French it is AVS) when she arrived here. Your Gemeinde will have it on record, and they can issue her with the document.

Guess we will go downtown Winterthur this afternoon where we submitted all the paper work for her resident permit and ask them for the number.

We needed the AHV nbr for our 5 month old daughter. The local kreisburo said they will issue this number after a payment of CHF 30.
Its a straight-forward job if you already have the permit.
