I just moved to Switzerland so I have no clue about the health system here. When looking at for instance comparis.ch for health insurance I have to choose what my deductible rate should be. This seems to be somewhere between 300 CHF and 2500 CHF, which is a pretty wide range. I have no idea how much a visit to the doctors office costs, so I have a hard time deciding what deductible rate to get. For instance if a visit to the doctors office is i.e. only 100 CHF and I only intend to go once a year, there seems to be no point in getting the 300 CHF deductible rate. Whereas if it costs 1000 CHF every time a lower deductible rate makes sense.
Do anyone have good guidelines how to choose the deductible rate, when you have no idea what the general costs are?
Best, Rikke (Coming from Denmark where everything is paid by the government, so I have no idea how much healthcare costs)
There was actually a small feature on a program on SF yesterday...
It all depends on if you're healthy generally or if you havea chronic condition like heart condition or diabities.. if you do it's best to go for the lowest or next lowest deductible otherwise it always pays off to get the highest franchise or the second highest franchise.
In your case I would opt for the 2000 or 2500 depending on what the difference in premium would be (i.e if you're only saving 50 bux then it's worth going for the 2000)
Doctors visit I would say between 50-100 bux for basic stuff.
You tend to save around 80 bux in premium per month if you opt for the highest franchise which over an average 3 year period always pays off unless you're unlucky and have to visit the doctor for every year and use up all the franchise!
