Hello,

I'm a Swiss citizen that will relocate back to Switzerland after having lived in the US for over a decade. Since health insurance is required by law here and the Swiss Government mandates the coverage for the Grundversicherung I would like to read up on that law.

I'm looking specifically for the mandates that describe the coverage for the Grundversicherung and I would also like to know the law in regards to pre-existing conditions.

If anybody can help me find a link to that information I'd greatly appreciate it.

As per pre-existing conditions: They don't matter for the mandatory coverage. Every insurer that operates in the canton you live has to accept you (art. 4 KVG). The insurer is not even allowed to ask about pre-existing conditions (art. 6a KVV).

that is correct, the Grundversicherung must cover the a certain range of illnesses/injuries, no matter which companies offers, so you're free to choose the one you trust most / pay less.

As for additional insurance (which might be helpful if you need glasses/want to try "natural health treatment" vs. school medicine etc) - they don't ask that many questions and either include an existing condition asking for a higher premium or just exclude that condition and all possible follow-up treatments.
