dental insurance for child with avanex

i searched the forums a bit regarding this.
i figured (correct me if i am wrong)

-dental insurance is not included in the BASIC insurance and must be added on as an extra.

everyone in my family has BASIC insurance with avanex.
I've been thinking about taking my toddler to the dentist, but wanted to ask here first :
-if I can "add" the dental option at any point during the year, or only at the end of the year ( i understand that is when you can make changes in coverage and franchises).
-once I add the dental, can i make an appointment right away? or is there a wait time? (like when you add pregnancy add-ons to your insurance and have to wait to become pregnant for them to b eligible)

any other information regarding children, dentists, and dental insurance with avanex will be appreciated.

thanks

Re: dental insurance for child with avanex

Hi,

Dental insurance is normally not included in the basic. U need to sign up "Zusatzsversicherung" for that. U can add in this anytime. The insurer need declarations from u & ur house doc during application. Upon approval, u may arrange the dentist visit. But there will be a quota per year for the re-imbursement.

Hope this helps.

Re: dental insurance for child with avanex

I would simply take your child to Konstanz and pay German prices.

From my experience with Visana (a long while ago), if you have dental insurance:
1. you have to pay for any work necessary before the insurance will accept you
2. economically, it is only worth having 50% cover
3. correcting children's teeth (Orthodontics) is not automatically covered

Your health insurance might be different of course.

If the child was born here, you may be able to claim Orthodontic work under the Invalidity Insurance (IV) as it can be argued to be a birth defect.
