SwissCare insurance HELP

Hello!

I ve seen many threads about swisscare but yet to understand what i m supposed to do!

I arrived in switzerland on december, having my work contract etc etc, I registered to the kreisburo and so on (you all know the procedure)

At that time i thought Atupri was a good but not so cheap insurance for me...so when the goverment sent me the paper to fill in my insurance I chose Atupri.

in the meantime i have changed my mind and i want to switch to swisscare which seems hellalot cheaper and it covers the basics.

Keep in mind I still dont have in my hands my permit.

is it possible to change my insurance now? and should i apply to swisscare as an expat or as an aupair (since apart from my job i work as an aupair as well)

thank you in advance

Hi, you cannot choose swisscare if you are not a reseracher / student / trainee (including au-pair). Their expat insurance is a complementary private insurance, not basic insurance. Only in these special cases official exemption from the swiss insurance system by the canton can be obtained. If you have a different main occupation (the one based on which you get your permit), you have to take the swiss insurance like Atupri.

It doesn't matter you should pay from the date of entry into CH.

Re: SwissCare insurance HELP

As far as I know you can only change your insurance at the start of each calendar year... so you'll have to stick with your current provider. And if / when you do switch, make sure you do so in plenty of time and in accordance with the regulations. If you have a hunt on here you'll find many threads about people who have tried to change providers, not followed procedure properly and found themselves being billed by both companies and facing a lot of hassle to sort it out.

This is why it is better to arrange your health insurance yourself before the end of the 3 months, so you can shop around and get a good deal, rather than choosing / having something chosen for you at the last minute and then finding you have a not-so-good-deal.

And as mgosia said, health insurance is retroactive from the date you entered Switzerland.

Re: SwissCare insurance HELP

swisscare insurance is only for researcher, student or short term visiting scientist.
if you are one of those, then you may apply for it.
but i am not sure, you can cancel your insurance contract from apturi if it is already started.
