Rough cost of doctors for deciding excess levels

Hello.

We're in the process of trying to decide what level of excess we want to be liable for with our health insurance, which is pretty difficult to do without knowing roughly what medical costs are like here.

Does anyone know, for example, what a trip to the GP is? Obviously this is going to depend on a lot of things, but a ball-park would be great.

Does anyone know what it costs to get this tick injection too please?

Re: Rough cost of doctors for deciding excess levels

If you plot it out it normally works out best to either have the minimum excess or the maximum, anything in between works out less favorable (when i last looked at it anyway).

It's impossible to say what a visit to the doc costs, might be 80chf for a 5 min consultation and 4-600 for a few x-rays and blood tests. Any hospital treatment will run you up to the excess (will be more than 2-3k)

Re: Rough cost of doctors for deciding excess levels

My doctor charges about 6ofrcs for 5 mins consultation and if i cancel an appointment without giving 24hrs notice they charge me 50frcs I paid 55frcs for my tick injection so in total (you need 3 injections) it will be 165frc saying that the last one is 10 months after the second one.
so you dont have to pay for it all at once.

Re: Rough cost of doctors for deciding excess levels

I thought I was clever the first year by taking an excess of 2.5k, but in the end doctors costs me much more, so I ended up paying the 2.5k!

This year I switched to 300 CHF, and as a single consultation with my GP costs between 129-240 CHF (the latter if it includes a simple blood test), you quickly reach the point where a higher excess will cost you, even with just a few visits a year.

Re: Rough cost of doctors for deciding excess levels

While optimizing the "excess level", consider also the tax deductibility. Non-reimbursed medical expenses that exceed 5% of the taxable income, are deductible.

Hence, under certain circumstances, it could be better to pay a lower medical premium, absorb the "excess level" and then deduct it from taxable income.

You need a spread sheet to calculate the bottom line, including tax impact!
