Health Insurance - PLEASE help me

HiThis is probably the millionth time someone has posted this thread but I'm finding it hard working out how to get my Health insurance sorted - what is this deductible rate all about? Am I better to go for a lower one or...? I am generally a well person and I travel back to the UK to visit dentist and see my GP so anything in Switzerland would only be in emergency situation... like a snowboarding accident (this is less probable now than at the start of the ski season thankfully!) I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out - I've had a letter from the Canton saying I have until March 31st to get this sorted outThanks!Zoe

Re: Health Insurance

Yes it is. But notwithstanding. The deductible is like an insurance excess. You pay the first whatever of your claim. You generally pay your medical bill and the insurance reimburses you (unless significant like hospital stay etc)

If you are resident here you shouldn't be eligible for NHS treatment.

Occupational and non-occupational Accident insurance is covered by your employer if you have one.

Health insurance quotes online from www.comparis.ch . The basic compulsory cover is called MINIMA.

If you are healthy and don't go to the doctor often (use the NHS at home) then pay a low premium with a high threshold.

A snowboard accident would not be covered by health insurance, this falls into the category of accident insurance.

If for example you know you have a hernia and will require an operation, be sure to have a snowboarding accident and bust your gut as a result. I do believe that this will then fall under accident insurance.

Anyway, read this

Re: Health Insurance - PLEASE help me

Hi Zoe first your insurance does not cover you for the dentist unless you take a seperate insurance out, which we did for our children (you have to pay for 1 year before they will pay out for anything). Second I had to have a full medical before the insurance company would take me on (i bet they are regretting that now lol). Thirdly i would advice to take an insurance out that you only have to pay the first 250frcs, i know people who opted for the option pay less insurance over the years, but then if anything happens and you need to go to the doctors or hospital the insurance would not pay anything until you have paid the first 2500frcs e.g You are in hospital and the bill arrives for 7500frc you would have to pay 2500frcs then the insurance would pay the rest 5000frcs.

Re: Health Insurance - PLEASE help me

I have to deal with the same problem now and I'm still not quite sure which health insurance is the best for me. It seems to depend on someone's personal health status. If you are young & healthy then you are probably better off with a higher deductible rate.

The following website

http://www.vzonline.ch/de/vergleiche...sicherung.html

offers a comparison of health insurance rates (it's comparable to comparis.ch but unfortunately only in German or French). After typing in your details you can click on optimising the deductible rate (franchise). Thresholds of 500 to 2000 CHF seem to be financially senseless according to that overview. Up to annual healthcare costs of approx. 2000 CHF the highest franchise is obviously the best option to save money, then immediately the lowest franchise of 300 CHF offers the cheapest deal ...

Re: Health Insurance - PLEASE help me

hi zoe,

deductable is the ammount you pay, per claim, or per annum, above which the insurance pays out. It is a mandatory stipulation that for residency you have to be covered, although in VS I've never been asked to prove it!
