please help with letter from health insurance company

Hi,

I've been trying to sort out my health insurance. I've applied to Atupri, and received the following in a letter from them:

As i understand it, they're going to backdate my payments from when I entered the country, but what are they asking for in the second paragraph, a copy of my existing health insurance? Could someone please help with what they require - i've through this a million times, and I aint got a clue!

Many thanks.

Hi! I will translate the whole thing for you:

According to the health insurance laws, your insurance protection begins at your date of entry into Switzerland, this means for you, retroactivley per 16.12.2007.

Please send us a copy of your insurance policy from your present insurer which clearly states until when you were insured by them.

Hope this helps

I may be assuming the wrong thing, but if you were in the UK before this date then the insurer would be the National Health Service paid by your NI contributions.
Maybe this is a standard letter to people from other countries where they have only private insurance?

Also , since it is a requirement that you have insurance when you enter the country to stay , the insurance company you finally end with covers you retroactively anyway ( this means you also have to backpay, of course ) . I believe this is what they mean , but I stand corrected .

Hi,

maybe this link helps you to understand the insurance jungle here in Switzerland.

http://www.comparis.ch/immigration/info/10tips.aspx

even for us (the Swiss) it is sometimes a jungle of bureaucracy...

I hope I have been able to help..
